What I’ve Learned: Jennica’s Story

STC Direct - Jennica Blog 02292016

As I get ready to embark on a new journey I chose for myself, I can’t help but be grateful for how working with STC Direct has enriched my life both professionally and personally. I have had the pleasure of working with an amazing company whose purpose for existence is to develop individuals and provide them the opportunity to achieve success based on their efforts. What makes this company great is not its many awards nor its net worth, but its ability to change the lives of those who embrace its culture. The company taught me to value a good work ethic, a great student mentality and an unwavering positive attitude in whatever I focus my energy on. Indeed the company contributed to my growth as an individual and encouraged me to strive to develop others as well. Below are a few of the favorite things I learned from working in STC.

Managing Yourself
One of the most important things I have learned working for STC is managing my time and finances. The office schedule is set to where we have time to learn, to have fun and to make our money. I believe the day starts not when I wake up but when I go to bed. I have learned that getting enough rest at night ensures that I operate at my fullest the following day. If I’m not operating at my best a certain day then I am not giving myself the best opportunity. With regards finances, we are encouraged to know our weekly personal breakeven so we could set better goals and spend our money wisely.  Also, because of my manager’s constant guidance, I gained confidence in making decisions for myself and my team. Ultimately, I learned more about myself. I figured out what makes me strive to be a better version of myself each and everyday.

Confidence in Speech
I had been in America for less than a year when I first started working for STC. I had no experience in sales and was a bit insecure of my command of the English language. It did not help that I was reserved by nature and unaccustomed to the limelight. STC’s management training program helped me overcome those inhibitions by providing me with a standard script so I did not fumble over my words when talking to customers and by assigning me tasks specifically catered to getting me comfortable talking to an audience.

Challenging Yourself and One Another
One of the unique things I like about working with STC Direct is that they encourage individuals to get out of their comfort zone. It is by overcoming challenges that we achieve progress. We are given the freedom to think outside the box as long as we operate under the umbrella of integrity and professionalism. There is friendly competition in the office which was very helpful in motivating us to maximize our potential. Part of the culture of STC is to reward individuals based on merit and yet the desire is to win as a team.

Learn to Listen and Manage Others
One of my favorite topics in the office is the value of listening. There is a saying, “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Being that the initial line of work is direct sales, it is very important that I listen to customers more than I talk. Moreover, the company taught me to listen to my team. Every individual has different goals and different responses to adversities and criticism. With that being said, I learned a lot about coaching and developing different personalities.

With the hands-on approach our manager has implemented in the office, I could easily say this is one of the best learning experiences I’ve had in the pursuit of my personal career development.  I have yet to learn more with what the future will present itself to be. Nevertheless, I am extremely grateful of what Justin and STC Direct has taught me throughout my stay here. I wish STC Direct and its team success in all of its endeavors because they deserve it. More power to the team!

Sincerely,
Jennica S.
